ARMOR Secure Hosting
Most of the time, if you have a website done by ARMOR, we use our own cPanel hosting that is on a local server in our shop. We have been running our own hosting since 2003. A cPanel hosting is a “Control Panel” for your hosting that gives you the options to work with your files, email, domain, and security pertaining to your website. This article focuses on how to get to your hosting and how to use it.
How Do I Get To My ARMOR cPanel Web Hosting Account?
The quickest way to get to your account is to go to https://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. This will take you to a login page that will need your username and password to get into. The username is the email address we have on file when you signed up with us, and the password is what was set up at the time. If you do not have your password, you can use the Reset Password link below the login button.
Once you are logged in, you will have access to a number of tools and free software installs from WordPress, Drupal, OpenCart, and 400 other open-source websites and web applications to work with. After you have logged into cPanel, you’ll come to a dashboard that contains the control panel. On the right-hand side, you’ll see the general information about the domain address, your home directory, and the last IP address that logged in. Below that, you will see additional statistics about disk usage, database usage, and bandwidth. The main dashboard contains a set of smaller dashboards listed below.
Files Dashboard
The Files dashboard contains a file manager that allows you to access files in your home directory. This includes any documents that may control your email and website. The dashboard also contains an image manager, a directory privacy controller (to add password security to folders), a disk usage monitor, a web disk configuration (to allow remote access to files for sharing), a standard FTP account system, a backup utility (so that you can make backups of your files at any time), and the GitTM Version Control system (to maintain any set of files and track the history of changes from multiple editors).
Email Dashboard
The Email dashboard contains an email account control system to add, delete, change passwords, and monitor email accounts. The system also contains settings for forwarders, autoresponders, default address settings, mail lists, global email filters, delivery tracking, spam filters, encryption settings, email usage, and settings for calendars with shared address books.
Database Dashboard
The Database dashboard allows you access to MySQL® Database configuration tools. It also contains phpMyAdmin, which is a very powerful open-source application that can help to structure SQL statements, manage your database, export your database, and modify your data in any way you need.
Domain Dashboard
The Domain dashboard has all the tools to manage your domain (e.g., setting addon domains, subdomains, aliases, all of the common redirects like 200, 301, 404, 500, and more. Plus, the Domain dashboard has an additional DNS zone editor. This feature allows you to create and edit DNS zone files, which configure domain names to the correct IP addresses.
Metrics Dashboard
The Metrics dashboard function much in the same manner as Google Analytics. While tracking visitors globally and creating logs for error reporting and raw access, the dashboard also creates a generalized set of analytics that can give you stats on page views, your most popular content, browser usage, device usage, and location data.
Security Dashboard
The Security dashboard controls SSH access to the hosting account, which can blacklist IP addresses that may be a threat, controls the SSL certificate for the website, provides hotlink protection, and provides leach protection. The ModSecurity tool prevents most brute force, serverside cross scripting, SQL injection, and protects against a long list of other security threats.
Software Dashboard
The standard Software dashboard contains installation scripts for useful libraries such as PHP Pear packages, Perl modules, website optimization tools, and PHP management tools.
Advanced Dashboard
The Advanced dashboard provides resource monitoring, Cron jobs for automating processes, an indexing system, Apache web server handlers, a virus scanner, and an error handling page manager.
Preferences Dashboard
The Preferences dashboard allows you to maintain your contact information, your password security, the user management system, the language of the system, and the style of the dashboard.
Softaculous Apps Installer Dashboard
This system is in an additional application that installs over 400 different open-source applications for any client to use for personal or business. This installer contains a host of the popular titles—such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and OpenCart—along with blogging, forum, gallery, social networking, ad management, project management, polls, e-commerce, and calendar systems.
